November 11 marks Veterans Day, known as Remembrance Day to others, like us up in Canada, and marks the day

Some refer to Veterans Day as Poppy Day or Armistice Day, but regardless of the name, almost everywhere that recognizes the day honors the tradition of wearing a red poppy from the beginning of November until the 11th.

While there is a traditional poppy that is worn by most, some are seeking chicer alternatives, while others still are supplementing it with even more poppy embellishments. The gallery shows a few alternatives to the traditional plastic pin-on that be worn year-round, either as an honorable tribute or simple fashion statement, and not just those restricted to Veterans Day.

What a great tradition! Will you be wearing a poppy tomorrow? Bianca, I would love to see a post from you next July regarding Canada Day. It is one thing to read the history behind a holiday from a fact sheet or essay - but knowing how someone from there actually celebrates it gives it a wonderful and personal touch.
