Vector Foil Proposes Houston Dome as Natural Disaster Shield

Houston, TX is prone to hurricanes, as well as a whole slew of other natural disasters. Vector Foil wants to help protect residents of the city from those disasters with their proposed ‘Houston Dome.’

The Vector Foil Houston Dome would be 21 million square feet if created, covering the major centre of the city. The proposed dome is made out of a polymer made by the company that is only one percent glass.

It is said the Houston Dome would be able to withstand up to category 5 hurricanes.

Strange... As a Houstonian I have 3 comments... 1. Would that keep our pollution out or keep it in? 2. Aside from hurricanes, Houston floods pretty easily, including the downtown area. This seems like it could create issues with flooding. 3. If a mistake was made, and this thing fell (due to hurricane winds, or just bad engineering) it was hurt a whole lot of people... And I don't know that I'd want to live in a dome... It just seems strange.

Ok, my husband commented that it's the dome from the Simpson's movie! lol. (See link attached) ** Also, I want to point out the the majority of the damage and cost from Hurricane Ike was done to the Coast, i.e. Galveston. Not the downtown/city area itself. Ok, I'm done now!
