As the number of Twitter users continues to grow, so too do the applications built from the millions of real-time tweets posted on the popular microblogging site. Twitter taps into the “right now,” which is something that today’s search engines are missing. There have even been rumors of Google wanting to acquire Twitter for this very reason.
And speaking of rumors, one site, Tweet on the Street, is leveraging the strength of Twitter by building a rumors and news site. It searches through tweets and displays rumors on technology topics and celebrities but hints at the promise of more. The Tweet on the Street search tool, however, allows for the user to find the latest rumors on any topic. It’s like a super-blog written by millions of authors. Awesome! I think we can expect more sites like this in the future.
