As the world’s population burgeons and living space diminishes, architects have begun to literally think outside the box when it comes to finding ways to house everyone in comfortable AND attractive surroundings.

Instead of constructing communities horizontally, they are lifting their eyes upward. Yes; a group of feng-shui influenced designers in Shenzhen, China seem to have hit upon a fabulous solution: behold the wave of the future… behold the ‘vertical city.’

Modelled after one of China’s most iconic elements – the mountain – the five million square meter vertical city demonstrates that contemporary buildings can be large, sustainable and suited to their surroundings. (greenmuze)
