In a world where countless objects are thrown out daily, Studio Markunpoika subverts this by creating these intriguing wooden vases using upcycled colored pencils. These rustic vases are a great example of how an unused everyday article can be repurposed into something new.

These pencil vases are made by gluing together several same-sized pencils into flat sheets. The sheets are then arranged and stacked in a rough outline of a vase and then put through a machine that sands the pencils down. The sanding gives the pencil structures more of a curved texture that varies in size and width depending on the individual vase. As the pencils are sanded down, the colored core is revealed adding an unexpected pop of color to these wooden urns.
