'Actronika,' the Paris-based haptic solutions company, has created a prototype for the 'Skinetic,' a highly detailed haptic-enabled wearable vest. The current Skinetic vest prototype boasts 20 haptic nodes around the front, back, and sides of the torso. These nodes are not only capable of delivering traditional digital recognition haptic feedback, but also "vibrotactile" feedback, which is generated by audio detection.
Actronika has described the experience of using its Skinetic as "true-to-life" and "incomparable" to other haptic feedback technologies. On top of this, the Skinetic is designed to be easy to wash. It has a mesh lining that is interchangeable and washable, so users can easily hand-wash or machine-wash their vest's lining after a long session in VR. The Skinetic vest is not yet live for public sale, though its preorders will go live on March 22nd, 2022 on Kickstarter.
