On the Alexander Family Farm, the set for the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy 'Hobbiton' village was built, but now the Shire is actually home to sheep. The little hobbit hole abodes have been stripped of their congenial charm and are falling into ruins, but the merinos don't mind.
The gorgeous New Zealand landscape featured in such animated lushness on the big screen continues to support this new community of a different walk of life. This is a great example of the adaptability and re-purposing of land in a way that can complement the natural environment.
