Vancouver-based tattoo artist Nomi Chi specializes in recreating stunning pencil sketches in the form of shaded tattoos. While the ink looks like a hand-drawn piece of art from a sketchbook, the tattoos are completely made using tattoo ink.

The intricacy of these shaded tattoos is emphasized with the use of dark and light ink-made shadows. Each piece of artwork is created with black ink and uses no color, which enhances the look of the pencil-like drawing.

Nomi Chi is inspired by animation and often creates playful cartoon sketches. The artist uses this style of tattooing as an attempt to convey movement within all of her pieces. Using a pencil and paper allows the shading to easily reveal actions, but using an ink gun is much more difficult.
