Apple Patented a Screen Protection Design That Uses Motion-Sensor Legs

Instead of using the toughest material or the most cushioning case, Apple is designing smartphone screen protection that uses retractable legs. The patent suggests that the phone itself would have four legs within that pop out when the motion sensors detect that the phone is falling. Popping out before it hits the ground, the crab-like legs would stop the screen from being scratched, cracked or broken.

While the concept could change as it is currently just a patent, the screen protection design features a leg at every corner of the device that could be rolled out with an internal motor. The patent is an interesting step for Apple as mobile technology giants try to create the most durable cell phone to withstand the modern user's daily life.
