Streaming movies and downloading smartphone gaming apps have made many things obsolete such as VHS tapes and even some boardgames; yet this series of retro paper art gives them another chance at life. Turning them into stunning masterpieces, artist Charles Clary carves into his pop culture object of choice in order to show their inner workings. Of course, the retro paper art is much more imaginative than realistic.

Using layers of colored paper, he manages to create the illusion of intricate vessels and veins that lie beneath the surface of movie boxes and boardgame covers. In a way, the retro paper art shows off an unlikely source of life that requires constant stimulation in order to thrive.
