To give consumers something to do while they commute from place to place, independent novel shop BooksActually has put together a literary vending machine in high traffic areas throughout Singapore that provides on-the-go reading material. The books can be purchased and dispensed like food usually is from a vending machine with a focus on supporting the local writing scene.

The BooksActually vending machine replaces snacks and soda beverages with over 150 book titles available for instant purchase. Each of the items featured are written or produced by locals, as a way to support the community. Users can purchase a book instantly and enjoy something to read that offers an electronics-free source of enjoyment. Currently there are three BooksActually vending machines open in busy areas throughout the city, with more hopefully on its way.
