Sony has announced a new version of its PlayStation 5 console that features a slimmer design and a removable disc drive. The new PS5 has the same internal hardware as the original model, but it has been reduced in volume by more than 30% and in weight by up to 24%. The disc drive, which can play 4K Blu-ray discs, can be attached or detached from the console by removing a cover panel. The new PS5 also comes with a 1TB solid state drive, which is slightly larger than the 825GB SSD of the previous model.
The new PS5 will be available in November in the US, and will eventually replace the current model of PS5 altogether. The disc drive version will cost $499.99, while the digital version will cost $449.99. However, if you buy the digital version and later decide to add a disc drive, you will have to pay an extra $79.99 for the drive. The console also comes with a new horizontal stand, and a vertical stand will be sold separately for $29.99.
