Project Iris is Google's latest work towards a new AR headset. The headset will run on a custom Google processor, similar to the Pixel 6 and Google's own servers. More specifically, Project Iris runs on Android. However, this aspect of the project is subject to change as Google continues to hire folks for new OS positions.
The headset is still in its inception phase, with a 2024 release date prediction. As of now, it is confirmed that the headset will resemble ski goggles, giving users a full-screen view. Additionally, Project Iris will not run on an internal battery and won't require the need to be tethered to work, making it accessible in various metaverse experiences.
