Although Paintings for Ants is a transparent project that leaves nothing to question, many people will probably still think of Ben Stiller's memorable line from 'Zoolander,' "A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read...if they can't even fit inside the building?" Yet these miniature artworks are made with the hard-working insects in mind.
Spanning the course of 365 days, Lorraine Loots, an artist based in Cape Town, South Africa, has created a series of Paintings for Ants. From small burgrs to adorable bunnies and even a shiny saxophone, the illustrations are full of detail and realism. She has since relaunched her Paintings for Ants project, which is now inspired by Cape Town’s designation as World Design Capital 2014. There are also 5 limited edition postcards for each day.
