Niagara Parks is Re-Opening its Century-Old 2,198-foot Tunnel

Niagara Falls introduces another attraction with the Niagara Parks tunnel that is opening up once again under the whitewater waterfall. According to the Parks, it is a 2,198-foot-long tunnel and was first made back in 1901 with shovels, pickaxes, and dynamite in order to combat the power of the waterfall.
The structure was in place and used from the years 1905 to 2006 when is was transformed to be a power plant that develops electricity for Buffalo, NY. It has since shut down and now is re-opening once again to the public. To access the tunnel, visitors are to take a glass elevator that is 180 feet past the 6 levels of the structure. The parks administrators state that this new space will “take you along the same path traveled by water and lead you to a viewing platform where the tunnel emptied into the Niagara River.”
