MyBench.gr Encourages Virtual Vandalism and Community Networking

By: Amelia Roblin - Published: • References: behance.net
Humans have always had a tendency to mark their territory so the aim of MyBench.gr is to enhance the way this is done by linking the physical world with the virtual one. You may have been satisfied to inscribe "Johnny was here" in a tree ten years ago, but now technology allows you to share your identity with the world.

Aris Stathis's concept is firstly based on the idea of assembling a new line of outdoor public seating across Athens with built-in five-cycle bike racks integrated into the backs. The pieces themselves invite more tangible interaction. But what truly sets these bleachers apart from standard ones is the data matrix embedded into each frame. Perhaps using QR codes, visitors can upload messages and pictures onto MyBench.gr, thereby linking themselves to that particular seat and all others who've come to use it too.
