These intricately detailed and contemplative illustrations by artist Corey Corcoran are carved on conk mushrooms. A general melody of nature and reflection seems to encompass his body of work. Corcoran’s careful carving and skillfully detailed style is admirable, especially considering the fragile surface of fungi that he uses as his canvases.

Confusion, bewilderment, contemplation and pattern recognition are predictable happenstances in close encounters with natural as well as the psychedelic world. However, even though predictable, these encounters are anything but ordinary, and have in fact given ways to incredible art work over the years. The meta-use of the mushroom surface, the fine detailing of the carvings and the expressiveness of the illustrations overall all give way to a fine body of thematic artwork by Corcoran that is both scrupulous and acute.
