This Healthier Version of Mashed Potatoes Subs Out the Spuds

Mashed potatoes are often a staple at any holiday dinner, but they can be heavy and filled with a ton of calories despite the meal's great taste. This mashed cauliflower version by BuzzFeed creatively subs the potato in for a healthier vegetable and masks the taste using creamy added cheese.

Cauliflower offers a similar texture to potato when mashed up, making it an ideal substitute that doesn't change the consistency of the classic dish. The rest of the meal is prepared similarly to the original with milk, butter and added spices. To give the cauliflower a creamier texture, white cheddar is added along with chives for a more potent flavor.

Substitution dishes such as this cauliflower mash allows consumers to still enjoy their favorite holiday foods, made with healthier ingredients.
