Trader Joe's is putting a plant-based twist on a classic Korean dish with the debut of its new Korean Beefless Bulgogi.
In Korean, bulgogi literally translates to “fire meat," and typically consists of thinly sliced strips of beef marinated in a savory bulgogi sauce before grilling. Now, Trader Joe's is offering all the delicious taste of bulgogi, without the beef. The brand's new Korean Beefless Bulgogi consists of textured soy protein that mimics the taste of beef. These soy strips are then soaked in a marinated made up of soy sauce, pear puree, garlic, ginger, green onions, and sugar by a supplier in South Korea. As Trader Joe's explains, "Though completely vegan, the texture of our Beefless Bulgogi is satisfyingly meat-like; and the savory, sweet, salty sauce adds authenticity (not to mention enjoyability!) to the whole eating experience."
