Depending on what you did last night, the lead image of a girl with a haunted house weighing down on her head may be a perfect metaphor for your current state. Aside from aiding in post-Halloween metaphors, Kiersten Essenpreis uniquely illustrates the childhood wonder of the holiday without the usual horror, blood, and guts. Check out the Kiersten Essenpreis gallery for illustrations of childish Medusas and kids taking a swim through candy corn.  Still, nothing scary about Essenpreis’ approach to ghouls and goodies even when swimmers are buried in candy corn, bats fly out of petticoats and Medusa needs a haircut. Essenpreis is in fine form (despite a right hand that is not!), and her precise paintings continue to delight.
