Designer Masahiro Hirata's Journey Pencil takes writers on a world trip. The wooden writing tool is accented with a subtle flag print that references a countries from across the globe.

While the pencil's tip is marked with the Japanese flag, it's patterns begin to change as it gets smaller and smaller after sharpening.

This idea represents mileage and mimics the experience of travelling across the world. The Journey Pencil by Masahiro Hirata represents a distance of 25 000 km and was recognized at the 2013 Kokuyo Design Awards.

For fans of traditional stationary or travel, this flag-adorned writing tool is both charming and clever in its design. The collectible pencil transforms when sharpened and is representative of global travels.
