The Johanna Tammsalu Solid Spin lamps started out as just an experimental project, watching everyday objects spin around and create a whirlwind of fluttery shapes.
The furniture designer Johanna Tammsalu photographed and filmed shoes, remote controls, books or forks as they spun around in circles. She would then examine the shapes that they would make and them conceptualize them as other household objects like a lamp for instance. The lighting fixtures resemble playful colorful tops. You are able to see how the fixtures were influenced by the rotation of mundane objects in the way that the lines protrude or the sections bulge.
There were three prototypes of the Johanna Tammsalu Solid Spin Lamps created as the final prototype.
