Adonis Christodoulou designs the jellyfish robot which can interact with people through hand gestures. When the designer first visited Auckland's Kelly Tarlton Aquarium last year, they were fascinated by the jellyfish and how it evoked a tranquil feeling.
The project is fueled by machine learning and has actuators with reels that are developed to function like tentacles. The sides also have holes that ensure the threads remain perpendicular to the respective reels. Other functions are the four strings that are connected to a level of the reels so that the next is found above the previous tentacle. The software is the highlight as it teaches the machine several hand gestures that are meant to translate emotions for the robot.
