Spanish textile artist Irene Alvarez has created psychedelic tapestries and t-shirts in her latest work. In collaboration with Mic Eaton, the artist has produced tribal inspired totem t-shirts. She has also designed a series of tapestries called TURN ME OP which are hypnotizing to look at.

Irene Alvarez was inspired by the fantastical animation in the Disney movie Fantasia, but states that "the biggest influence has been my research with optical illusions. I have been working with a textile laboratory in the Netherlands to create a hologram effect with the yarns and the weaving technique, making traditional tapestry fresh again.

Alvarez clashes ethnic civilization with pop culture to bring new insight into both the past and the present.

The tribal t-shirts as well as the TURN ME OP series can be seen and purchased at Seven New York boutique. Stats for Weaving Cartoon Illusions Trending: Older & Chilly
