Inge Grognard works her magic behind the scenes of the fashion world, but that doesn't make her any less important than those in the forefront. Actually, the idiosyncratic makeup artist has played an integral role in the work of designers such as the iconic Antwerp Six. For its latest issue, Dazed Digital has dedicated a feature to her unconventional makeup stylings.
Gorgnard has made a career of challenging definitions of beauty in her work; the face is her blank canvass, and she often treats it as such, by foregoing makeup for paint and playing with elements of negative space, color and light.
Grognard takes a personal approach to makeup, explaining," I wanted to use bodies and faces as a white canvas, and I always push it in that direction. Something always stays naked on the face, not covered in product. I will always be a little bit underground. Trends don’t interest me. For me, that is not makeup. Makeup is working with the person in front of you; working with interesting people."
