New Tri-Panel Foldable Smartphones

Huawei Mate XT2 Is Debuting

Huawei unveiled the Mate XT2, a tri-panel foldable smartphone featuring a built-in privacy display and slated to go on sale starting September 12. The device is announced under Huawei's HarmonyOS lineup and positions the privacy screen as an integrated capability rather than an add-on.

The Mate XT2 uses a new inward-folding hinge and offers a 6.5-inch cover display that expands to a 10.2-inch interior panel with 3K resolution. Huawei equipped the phone with the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, which the company says is 42% faster than the Mate XT, plus four rear cameras: a 50-megapixel main, 40-megapixel ultra-wide and a 50-megapixel periscope with 3.5x optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel interior selfie camera.

For consumers, the fused privacy display and large inner screen aim to combine personal security with tablet-like viewing, while the upgraded chipset targets heavier multitasking. Pricing starts at 19,999 yuan, with 1TB and privacy-display models from 24,999 yuan, and Huawei does not expect US availability.
