For new skiers, keeping your skis straight can be a major challenge. For downhill skiing experts, minute changes in ski positions can mean the difference between winning and losing. A new system developed by Austrian firm, Abatec, can give ski position feedback via RFID to coaches in realtime while the skier goes down the slopes. After a run, skiers can look at their runs and see what needs to be optimized during runs. There’s no reason such a technology couldn’t be adopted to measure foot position on lugers to detect when the sled is sliding, or for other sports where minute changes in body orientation can translate into large changes in performance.  The underlying technology is radio frequency identification or RFID. A computer calculates the position of the skis every millisecond and displays their exact path on a monitor. “A coach recognizes whether both skis were parallel,whether the skier has drifted from her path in a curve and whether she is able to carve properly.
