With the anticipation of Google Glass, Google is already designing a spinoff to the product – Google Glass for Dogs.
If this idea has you scratching your head, you’re not alone. However, the inspiration behind this new tool is extremely positive. Google is teaming up with Georgia Institute of Technology on a project called FIDO, and I’m not talking about the phone company. Standing for Facilitating Interactions for Dogs with Occupations, this project is aimed at training dogs that help in crisis situations such as bomb-detection to be technologically savvy.
The hope is the Google Glass will improve communication between the dogs and their human partners by allowing the dog to send information to the owner’s Google Glass. Currently, FIDO works with collars that have sensors. When the dog notices something, it can activate the sensor with his mouth and send a signal to the owner. With the Google Glass, the human would be able to see what the dog is seeing.
In addition to helping crisis situations, the technology is being developed with seeing-eye dogs and their owners in mind.
