Has the world gone mad? This latest invention might see you nodding in violent agreement. Bio-Genica is a Bioengineering Company that has combined, and modified existing DNA to create Genpets -  living, breathing mammals - flesh and blood just like any other animal. Packaged in plastic they hang on retail shelves in a chemically induced type of hibernation controlled by a protein in the packages’ nutrient supply tubes.  You’ll be reassured to hear Bio-Genica’s commitment to quality: “No one likes a defective product and at Bio-Genica we understand this. Selling a live animal in packaging is no small undertaking so to help, we have included an easy to use “fresh gauge” in every single package. Four simple blue LED lights display the status of the Genpet™.” Destination Japan?

Our friends at GUSH Magazine inform us that Gen Pets are made by Adam Brandejs, a 24 year old artist from the Ontario College of Art & Design. The Gen Pets can be purchased in several retail stores on Queen Street, including Iodine and Arsenic.

In case some people didn't get it yet: this is an artistic project, addressing the danger in lack of ethics in bioengeneering... I must admit, I was amazed and shocked in the beginning as well, so the artist definitely reached the spot! To learn about the true story check: http://www.brandejs.ca/portfolio5/gp01.php
