While the Texas State Fair is known for outrageous treats and gargantuan creations, this year's winner is a nostalgia-inducing dessert called 'Fried Jell-O.' With its unique blend of flavors and textures, the dish has already managed to claim the top honor at the 2016 State Fair Of Texas Big Choice Awards.
Fried Jell-O is a deep-fried delicacy set to make its debut at the Texas State Fair between September 30th and October 23rd. The dish consists of cherry Jell-O wrapped in a pastry breaded with panko crumbs, deep-fried and then dusted with powdered sugar. The dish was developed by 82-year-old Ruth Hauntz, who has been a regular at the fair since 1987.
As the demand for hybrid dishes continues to rise, state fairs remain a perfect venue for experimental food creations.
