Maxtor and Sentry Group have teamed up to take security to a whole new level by creating an external hard drive capable of resisting fire and water. The result of the collaboration was remarkable. Sentry concentrated on the physical security of the device while Maxtor provided the software called SafetyDrill which allows for an almost immediate restoration of the whole system. It carries a price tag of $260 for 80 GB model and $320 for 160 GB model.

Sentry used natural disasters for marketing; the recent fires in Southern California resulted in many people losing their computer data to the flames.

“A recent national news broadcast reports how one San Diego family lost their entire home, but thanks to their Sentry®Safe FIRE-SAFE® storage container their valuable memorabilia and irreplaceable items survived undamaged,” the site says.
