'Robocoach' is an automated exercise coach that helps Singapore's aging residents stay in shape. Singapore has one of the fastest aging populations in the world, meaning the country needs to provide services for an increasing number of senior citizens. This new program demonstrates how robots may prove useful in teaching senior-friendly exercise classes.

Robocoach is a robotic fitness instructor that is specially designed to guide seniors through different kinds of exercise classes. The robotic instructor is equipped with two screens that help seniors follow the different activities. The screen on the robot's head uses a human-like display to convey emotions, while the screen on the robot's torso demonstrates the various movements to class participants. Robocoach is also equipped with sensors that help it determine whether the seniors are following the instructions.

Due to the success of early research, the automated exercise coach will soon make its way to at least 25 of Singapore's senior centers.
