Nike has created a new European distribution center, which will be completely powered by sustainable energy. Ham, Belgium, was chosen as the location, and it offers a massive space of 1.5 million square feet. Nike's new European Distribution Center is powered entirely by either solar, geothermal, hydroelectric or biomass energy. Nike has also indicated that 95% of the waste products produced will be recycled.
Nike chose Ham as the location due to its proximity to canals, which allows it to transport 99% of its materials by water. This reduces trucking by 14,00 trips per year.
The actual building was created with a rack-supported design, which allows for lower amounts of steel and concrete to be needed in the construction process.
