Enva Launches a Wind Turbine Blade Recycling Service in the UK

Enva is now launching a new service for wind energy providers that involves shredding and crushing discarded turbine blades to recover recyclable components like steel. Wind turbine blades are often made of composite materials, making them more difficult to recycle. Although several technologies can be utilized to recycle these blades, these solutions have not yet been explored or competitively priced.
Energy-from-waste facilities utilize the leftover material in place of conventional fossil fuels. In the recycling process, the blades are divided into three 50 m lengths using specialized equipment before being transferred to Enva's recycling plant.
“Enva is committed to bringing at least one new recycling process to market every year and the opening of our wind turbine blade recycling facility is another tangible example of this innovation and investment. The increased use of alternative energy sources will result in new waste streams which will each require managing in a way that enables us to unlock their circular economy and commercial value [...],” said Michelle Scott, Operations Director at Enva.
