For those who find belt buckles to be annoying, you are gonna love this! Created by the designer Icelandic Sruli Recht, “Elt” is the first leather belt without a buckle.  Its offered in different sizes and is available at BBlessing in New York City and at BelleVille in Reykjavik.

“Elt is an exploration in removing the function from the function. When the clasp or buckle is removed from the belt itself, it loses its place, and becomes a strip of hard skin, not even long enough to knot. In this result the skin is incised to give the same ability as clasped and fingers interlocked. In designing belts came the challenge that there must be a way to do away with the buckle, and create a strong tie symmetric flat, without any additions. Looking at the woven fingers of my locked hand pent in thought, the idea was found. Looking at the woven fingers of my hand pent locked in thought, the idea was found. ”  SRULI RECHT

To be honest with you, I am not very fond of its style. It looks kinda nerdy, so I hope they work on that next.

Not the first at all. I have owned a perfectly functional belt without a buckle for more than 10 years. I bought it at a crafts show and it is a very simple pattern. The belt is about 1 1/2 inches at one end with a blunt end and two slits near that end parallel to the end. The belt narrows slowly until at the other end it is narrow enough to fit through the slits. To close the belt, you slimply put the narrow end through the nearest slit, then through the other slit, then back through the first slit. What is more, the belt was black on one side and brown on the other. Excellent.
