Ricardo Garza Marcos' San Andreas Design Cracks Apart Like the Earth

There are coffee tables with inbuilt storage, and then there is the earthquake-inspired coffee table designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Garza Marcos. The large crack that appears in the middle of the table is reminiscent of the San Andreas fault, the famous tectonic boundary in California.

Just like the sliding of the Pacific and North America plates that leads to real earthquakes, the coffee table slides open to reveal a useful storage space. As a functional piece of furniture, it is indeed all that it’s cracked up to be.
