Barila Designs a "Dynamic Ecosystem" with the Dune Pavilion
The Dune pavilion was one of five structures to grace the courtyards of the Charlottenborg mansion in Copenhagen. Part of the 2022 Chart Art Fair, the structure was designed by Barila, which is an ongoing collaboration between Brøn Studio, GRZA, and VLA.
Like the other structures at the fair, the Dune Pavilion explored notions of sustainable architecture. The Dune pavilion evokes the aesthetic of a greenhouse because of its transparent facade that welcomes light in. On the inside, Barila outfits the space with a mound of sand that was sourced from the Danish sand dunes. Through this decision, the collective built a narrative "between the natural and artificial." Wildlife with roots was planted in the sand and allowed to thrive. Visitors were welcomed to enter and interact with the space.
