Dubai tourism is a curious industry simply because of its sheer magnitude. Where else in the world will you find more hotel lodgings than apartments? This one statistic alone will give you a quick snapshot at the importance of tourism in the Dubai economy. Thirty-three percent of dwellings in Dubai are apartments, while 66% are hotel lodgings. This means that if everything was full, there would be twice as many tourists in Dubai as residents.

After discovering this stat, it's no surprise that hotels drive 86% of revenue compared to 14% from apartments. Aside from the sheer volume of hotel rooms occupied, the reality is people in hotel rooms will spend more money on things than those in apartments because they are usually on vacation. Over the last decade, the number of hotel lodgings has more than doubled in Dubai.
