Transparent Fashion - Dior Couture Fall 08/09 Plays Peekaboo in Paris (GALLERY)
[Edit]
John Galliano started the Paris couture season with an exquisite Dior Couture Fall 08/ 09 show that flaunted peekaboo ‘now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t’ pieces. I have to say this is my absolute favorite show of late. Shows like this are what fashion designers aspire to achieve, even once in their lifetime.
The collection is pure Dior but with a twist. In contrast to the stiff and heavy fabrics which Christian Dior couture has recently been using in their trademark voluminous dresses, Galliano used layers of light chiffon and hand-embroidered sheer lace that provided a “window” to what’s underneath.
“It’s a sort of homage to photographers and cameramen,” Galliano said of his choice of monochrome black and white, which helped bring the focus on the structure and details of the pieces.
The show attracted big names such as Janet Jackson, Eva Mendes, Claudia Schiffer, and Liv Tyler.
