Umino Seaweed Shop recently launched a line of Designer Nori in an attempt to turnaround the company's poor sales following the Tsunami in Japan. The floundering company was looking to reinvigorate the traditional Japanese food, which hasn't seen an update since the 15th century. With the help of the Japanese advertising firm I&SBBDO, Umino Seaweed Shop is generating worldwide buzz.
This intriguing take on the classic maki wrapper features intricate laser cut designs that elevate the simple Japanese staple to a form of edible art. The patterns signify good fortune, longevity and happiness. When rolled into a snug sushi roll, the Designer Nori creates a dramatic contrasting design between the tender white rice and the deep green of the seaweed.
Unlike any maki roll you've seen, this souped-up version of classic, Japanese fare will have you gawking.
