The University of Chile's Vaccine Causes Hangovers to Cure Alcoholism
Nobody in their right mind would take medication to give themselves a hangover, unless they were trying to cure alcoholism.
That's exactly what researchers at the University of Chile are proposing. Their new vaccine instantly causes a hangover when the subject takes a drink, making ingesting alcohol absolutely intolerable. At least that's the main idea behind it. Considering that most people hate or can't tolerate hangovers, this is a pretty ingenious way to help cure alcoholism. The vaccine blocks the alcohol processing enzyme in the liver, which then produces a compound called acetaldehyde. This compound is the evil, no good reason that someone feels run over by a truck after a bender. The vaccine is currently on trials with mice, and could be commercially available for human use by 2015.
