In the hope that the green movement will take thousands of little steps to collectively create big changes in many communities, SunChips and National Geographic have put forth the ‘Green Effect’ initiative.
Entrants must submit an essay describing a ‘Green Idea’ and explain how it would create a positive change to local environments and communities. Each English-language essay must be between 100 and 250 words. The essay will include a project description, location, timing, and how the prize money will be used to further the project. Photographs or videos can be included to support the essay.
There are sample entries as well as over a thousand submissions for viewing on the site. Five $20,000 awards will be made in July 2009.
