It’s certainly not the first time cocoon coats have been shown in runway shows, but with the new looks shown at fashion week in both New York and Toronto, the cocoon coat is officially a look for Fall 2009.

The look was shown in an array of patterns, with Matthew Williamson showing the look in a bright pattern and Diane Von Furstenberg showing it in black. A beautiful coat, proportions need to be taken into consideration with a coat as big as this.

All the designers showed the coats with leggings or skinny jeans, so if you’re going to wrap yourself up in a cocoon coat when the weather gets cold, be sure to take a page from the fashion week book and keep it skinny on the bottom. Stats for Cocoon Coats Trending: Older & Chilly
