Realist painter Christian Rex van Minnen cleverly distorts the faces and bodies of subjects in his paintings to render them uncharacteristically grotesque. The result is an interestingly disturbing mix of uncanny portraits with bright colors and bizarre objects.

Rex van Minnen has been often celebrated for his unbelievable ability to paint hyper-realistic paintings that almost look as if they were photos taken with a camera. In his latest series of paintings, Rex van Minnen pays tribute to Renaissance portrait paintings, but adds a modern twist by distorting the bodies, juxtaposing random objects and rendering the faces unrecognizable. One of the most visually stimulating works in the series features a Victorian elderly woman with her eyes falling out of her head, a "BORN" shoulder tattoo and rainbow vomit coming out of her mouth.
