This brick-fronted building on a quiet residential street in New Delhi is definitely something to behold. With an interesting facade that accents the vibrancy of the neighborhood and spikes the curiosity of those passing by, the three-story structure is an apartment building that was envisioned and designed by the modern Indian architecture office AKDA which is headed by Amit Khanna.
Dubbed ‘the Safdarjang Khanna,’ the brick-fronted building is dominated by a large circular opening that captures the eye immediately, while the brick tiles around it are laid out in a jaali pattern. About the architectural silhouette, Amit Khanna shares that “the facade of this building could be seen as a response to the context or a reflection on materiality." The design pays homage to the work of architect Louis Kahn.
