Team Canada has made is very clear that they’re proud their Beijing Olympic outfits are environmentally-friendly. In fact, their sustainable suits have made quite a few headlines as the athletes and their sponsors haven’t been afraid to tout the fashionably green attributes of the clothing.

The Hudson’s Bay Company crafted the eco-suits for all the Canadian athletes in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, using environmentally friendly fabrics. Fortunately, they integrated high tech innovations to ensure the athletes would also be comfortable, and not just green with envy of their competitors who remained cool in suits specialized for Beijing’s heat.

HBC commissioned Tu Ly to create suits designed particularly to protect the athletes from Beijing’s muggy heat and UV rays, as well as to keep them stink-free with odor-resistant fabrics. Too bad—could have been a good deterrent to keep their competition at bay!

Canada is proudly written in both English and Chinese and the maple leaf is used on select items. The primary colours for the collection are red and white, with further colour inspiration coming from the five elements of Chinese astrology: Earth, Wood, Fire, Water and Metal. Chinese symbolism is used in the form of the lucky number eight, both as a numeral and an octagon. (feelgoodstyle)
