An unusual collaboration between designer Marimekko and stiletto king Manolo Blahnik has produced a bizarre and highly creative collection for Spring/Summer 2008.
The shoes are the product of an evident contamination between the bright patterns typical of the Finish company, and Blahnik’s peculiar sculpture-like structures. The latter stated to have been inspired for this collection by Turkish Istanbul architecture.
The collection, which includes pieces in the famous Marimekko floral fantasy will be available as of this week at New York and London Blahnik stores.
Manolo Blahnik, one of the world's most prominent fashion designers in women's shoes, translates Marimekko Mini-Unikko and BonBon patterns into one of his favourite themes for his spring/summer 2008 collection. The collection took influences as diverse as the architecture of Constantinople and Finnish Marimekko patterns. “The two just happened to fall perfectly into place – bizarre as that combination may sound,” says Blahnik.
