Awe-inspiring Angular Abodes

The Apollo Architects 'Fold' Shows New-Aged Residential Structures

The newest project by Japanese architectural firm APOLLO Architects & Associates 'FOLD' is stunning and memorable. The irregularly shaped home crosses the boundaries of traditional residential architecture. FOLD is a multileveled single-family house located in a densely built-up area of Tokyo. The slanting structure is made up of "two contrasting space concepts: an entirely enclosed ground-floor and a spacious, fully exposed first-floor."

The home's smooth white exterior is fluid through its sparse and open interior. Moreover, heavy volumes of the outside structure continue as focal points and separators within interior spaces. Despite its heavy and voluminous forms, large open windows allow for natural light to enter the grand and spacious structure.

This piece of angular architecture stands out among its neighboring houses while seeming right at home, on a diagonal urban street.
