BigDog is a robotic creation of Boston Dynamics and is currently being field tested. The Army is absolutely blown away by its capability to perform programmed activities, which makes the Big Dog very useful in the battlefield. ‘BigDog’ can run along with soldiers, walk and even lay down—all the while remaining fully aware of its surrounding conditions. ‘BigDog’ is extremely stable, no matter how hard it is hit. The only way to take the ‘BigDog’ down is with a direct hit.  BigDog has an on-board computer that controls locomotion, servos the legs and handles a wide variety of sensors. BigDog’s control system manages the dynamics of its behavior to keep it balanced, steer, navigate, and regulate energetics as conditions vary. Sensors for locomotion include joint position, joint force, ground contact, ground load, a laser gyroscope, and a stereo vision system.
