It seems as though a lot photographers can pick up tips from Adriano Sodre's selected portfolio. The Porto, Portugal native has a portfolio that eschews the conventions associated with much of modern fashion photography -- his models are dressed down, not wearing much make-up, and posed awkwardly -- but they manage to do so in a way that is enticing and original.

By focusing on the natural beauty of his models, Adriano Sodre does puts the power in the hands of the model, his lighting, and his backdrops. The focus of his shots are not fashion, but rather the laid-back attitude or spirit associated with his varied solitary subjects.

My favorite shot in the Adriano Sodre collection features a blazer wearing model clutching a locket, staring at the camera with a doe-eyed gaze that is alternatively seductive and mysterious. This is the shot that perfectly encapsulates Adriano Sodre's skill as a shutterbug -- the ability to capture natural looking models in the midst of a moment.
